The Society of Central German Baroque Music in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia (MitteldeutscheBarockmusik: MBM), founded in 1994, is funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media, the Saxon State Ministry of Science and the Arts, the Ministry of Culture of Saxony-Anhalt, and the Thuringian State Chancellery. It consists of approximately 60 members, private as well as juristic, from all over Germany.

The MBM is a funding institution with the specific purpose of creating awareness today for the exceptionally dense, diverse, and particular quality of central German baroque music, and its influential role in European music culture of the 17th and 18th centuries. Every year, a large number of projects – from concerts and festivals, symposia and conferences, to musicological publications and editions – are supported in financial as well as non-material ways.

The MBM is at once a modern network for ancient music, and decisively contributes to strengthening the cultural region of central Germany in its identity and distinctiveness. This has been realized as a forum which brings together performing musicians with musicologists and representatives of leading venues, research institutions, and museums in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia and beyond. The common interests of these partners, institutions, and artists are bound together through cooperation, synergistic creation, and cross-fertilization. The MBM acts simultaneously as a cultural-political representative as well as a communicator.

As an organizer of events, the MBM has set the goal of providing the exemplary service of making central German baroque music available to the widest public possible. The MBM organizes annually the Festival unMittelBARock! – Days of Central German Baroque Music in the spring, and in October the Heinrich Schütz Music Festival, a festival that is spread throughout three German States.
